Liquid Diets Weight Loss - 2 Meals and Shakes

Our bodies are made for solid foods. This is why drastic changes such as switching to sustenance very unlike our original foods create very dramatic differences in the body. To the benefit of people who are struggling with their weights, quick weight loss is among the immediate effects of adopting a liquid diet.

Liquid Diet employs partial or full replacement of solid foods. This is ideal for liquid fasting, but since it works well in contributing to massive weight loss, it is now a popular method for rapidly removing excess fats, wastes, and toxins from the body.

The idea behind this diet is very elementary. Since there are not too many calories in liquid foods and drinks, it limits calorie consumption, thereby leading to expected weight loss. In this method, there are two liquid meals and one snack. The snack is typically a milk shake or its numerous variations. The snack is a combination of powdered drink mix dissolved in eight ounces of skimmed milk. All in all, this runs to just about 200 calories. Not bad for a potentially calorie-loaded drink (please note: milk = plenty of calories).

While this diet is truly effective in trimming the fats off the body, there are plenty of setbacks associated with it. For one, it is an unsustainable type of weight loss method. Normally, this diet can only last for up to 3 days; longer durations may be adopted by people who have stronger thresholds against lack of sustenance. For an average person, juices, concoctions, and commercial liquid products may fail to provide proper nutrition, thus it is very important to take mineral, vitamin, and fatty acid supplements for the entire duration of the diet.

This is an extreme measure indeed and is only highly recommended for people who need to lose weight very quickly to prepare for a bariatic operation or to maintain the body's conditions after the said operation. If you are considering this method, it would be wise to consult your physician first.

Liquid Diets Weight Loss

One of the easiest ways of getting tons of nutrition while helping your chances of losing weight is through a liquid diet. Now I'm not talking about packaged protein shakes or low calorie drinks but rather whole food smoothies and juices that pack tons of fruits and vegetables into a single glass.

The recommended daily intake of fruits and vegetables is 5-10 servings yet less than 20% of North Americans meet that requirement. The reasons are many but a very simple way to remedy this issue is to get a number of those servings by way of a single smoothie or juice.

This way not only will you get an abundance of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants but you also lessen the burden on your digestive system. I'm sure you can understand that anything liquid takes far less time to digest than a solid food. It just makes sense since the ingredients have already been "predigested" by the blending or juicing process.

This applies to weight loss in the following manner. When you eat foods, they are digested, broken down, and absorbed into the blood to go to their final destination. Much of the time, though, the meals many people eat are so heavy that it takes them hours to digest.

As a result, the body is required to divert huge amounts of energy to the digestion process. Fatigue and lethargy are usually the first signs that this is taking place. I'm sure you've experienced this after a big Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.

Since most people have underactive digestive systems many of these solid meals don't get properly digested. They place heavy demands on the stomach and digestive organs and ultimately don't nourish the body as it needs to be. If foods come into your body and are not properly broken down they are more easily stored as fat (since they can't be utilized) and have a tendency to clog up the intestinal tract, impeding proper elimination.

More foods being stored as fat (especially if they're cooked foods) and an impaired ability to eliminate them can only mean that weight is being added (not lost) to your body. Food comes in but doesn't go out - it's got to go somewhere.

THE LIQUID SOLUTION

So if you want to lose weight and you can identify with the above scenarios, why not try a different approach?

Try incorporating more smoothies and fresh-pressed juices into your diet. Most of the smoothies and juices I make take no more than 5 minutes to prepare yet pack in about 4-8 servings of fruits and vegetables, and other superfoods!

This means that with just 2 smoothies or juices per day I can get more than my needed intake of fruits and vegetables. This has pretty obvious health benefits. It is also immensely beneficial for weight loss seekers.

Liquid meals reduce the load on your digestive system. It's almost as if the nutrients bypass the entire process of digestion and get absorbed right to where they need to be.

The benefits to juicing and making your own smoothies are numerous, but needless to say you have to give them a shot to truly feel their full power.

Liquid Diets Weight Loss - Is it working

Liquid diets are easy, will work if adhered to, and cost no more than regular foods. That's the good news. The other side of the coin is that they stop working if you quit using the liquid supplements, you will still have cravings, and can be harmful if abused. The trick is to eliminate the bad side and focus on using the Liquid Diet to give you a jump-start in changing your eating habits.

Many manufacturers offer a diet supplement in liquid form that you can use to limit your calories and still get the nutrients and necessary vitamins and minerals. Used properly they can help you cut back on the number of calories you absorb from normal foods. If you include some portion control on meals you eat, add some basic calorie burning exercise, and slowly change your eating habits, Liquid Diets can be a great weight loss method.

Liquid Diets are often used in recovery from surgery or an illness that requires that the patient avoid normal food. These are usually temporary to allow the patient to slowly get back to normal foods and provide a short-term method to get the necessary nutrients while in recovery. Most if not all of these liquids are totally replacing normal foods rather than supplementing a normal diet.

And then there's the type of Liquid Diet that are designed to provide necessary nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that are absent from foods consumed. You often see the commercials that compare these drinks to taking vitamins and minerals in tablet form. These are add on supplements and are not intended for meal replacement.

The key to finding the right supplemental drink is to consider two important factors. One is the contents, the other is how much normal food you eat in addition to the supplement. Many of the manufacturers have diet plans in addition to just their liquid supplements. These are the type of program that would be best for losing weight rather than the medical recovery or supplemental nutrient style products.

A good dietary replacement style liquid supplement will have fiber, nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. These ingredients should approximate a normal meal but with less calories. If you were on a 2100 calorie daily limit and you ate two normal meals of approximately 700 calories, you could have the liquid replacement that had 350 calories for the third meal and cut out 350 calories a day. Since it takes about 3500 calories to make a pound, you would lose about 2-3 pounds a month.

That's a good program for most people who want to lose 10-15 pounds in the next 5-6 months. The gotcha is that some liquid diets suggest a faster and more severe method, like skipping two meals and going for less than 1500 calories a day. This is too radical for most people and can cause some health issues. Most dietitians do not recommend going below 1800 calories a day for anyone on a regular basis.

Fasting for a limited time is fine for a healthy person as long as you don't over do it. If you are going to use a liquid supplement to aid in your fasting, it is always a good idea to consult your doctor. And if you take medication of any type, find out if this will impact the effectiveness or create issues if you fast. Before you start any weight loss program you need to be sure it will not have any health risks or side effects.

Liquid diets can be a great way to start losing weight but in the long run you will need to adjust your eating habits to keep from gaining any lost weight back. Don't get over ambitious, go for the long haul and use any supplement cautiously. Over doing it will only net you short term results and can even cause health problems.

Water Fasting Weight Loss - A good Liquid Diets Weight Loss?

In case you’re wondering if water fasting weight loss works then you have come to the right place. Thing is, that there are both pros and cons to loosing weight by the method of water fasting.

Water fasting also goes by the name of detoxification and hence loosing weight by water fasting is a very effective method to detoxify your body. The process of water fasting involves drinking a lot of water while not eating any regular food for several consecutive days. While this is a “hard core” version of water fasting; it is not recommended for a newbie. In case you’re water fasting for the first time then you can also drink fruit juices along with water. Since you are only drinking fluids during detoxification, the focus of your body will shift away from digesting food and hence the elimination of accumulated waste inside your body will begin in a smooth way. So in a sense, detoxification is an excellent method to overhaul and fine tune your system.

In addition to general internal cleansing of body, water fasting can also aid in loosing body weight. The major source of energy in our body is glucose which is what we get from every single food item that we eat. Glucose is a form of sugar and it is converted into glycogen after the digestion of food. This glycogen is then stored in our body as fat. During water fasting, this fat starts burning since the body is not getting any additional fat from outside. Hence, within the first few days of water fasting, our body will start burning the internal fat reserves which are responsible for additional weight. Although this method of weight loss by water fasting has been in practice since time immemorial, recent studies have revealed that there are certain limitations to this method.

The initial detoxification and internal cleansing of the body are very important and must be done at least once every year so as to “tune up” your system. But if done for more than four days, the metabolic rate of your body begins to slow down. This is because your body will then start behaving in its natural tendency to store fat. In other words, your body will slip into “survival mode” and hence will burn less or no fat. Moreover, once you return back to your normal diet, your body will start gaining all the lost fat as a natural reaction to “replenish” all the fat starved cells in this “survival mode”. Hence, it is conceivable that you may actually gain weight once done with water fasting.

However, this does not mean that Water Fasting Weight Loss doesn’t work. The key is to not overdo things. Fast as long as you can without punishing your body. Remember, excess of anything is bad and Water Fasting Weight Loss is no exception to this. Our bodies are approximately 85 percent water and hence it’s a very vital element for our survival. If done correctly, then water fasting will take your energy to new levels and you will feel vitalized and refreshed throughout the day.

Liquid Diets Weight Loss

Liquid diets are usually a temporary form of quick diets for weight loss advised before a surgery takes place. The liquid diets fall in to two categories. One is a low calorie liquid diet and the other a meal replacement liquid diet.

The low calorie liquid diet is practiced under strict medical supervision only. This diet provides on an average about five hundred to eight hundred calories a day. This is normally a short-term diet plan, mostly recommended to those who have serious obesity problems and need to lose a lot of weight in a short span of time.

The meal replacement liquid diet replaces one or two whole meals with liquids. This type of liquid diet is offered to many people as an effective tool to reduce weight.

A liquid diet consists of fresh fruit juices or shakes. They are prepared keeping in mind nutritiously, along with sweeteners, sugar, skimmed milk and a good quantity of fiber, minerals and vitamins. Certain liquid diets also permit the consumption of solid or real food intake in proportional sizes.

There could also be certain disadvantages an individual encounters while on a liquid diet. The person may get very little fiber, and the important antioxidants present in whole fruits and grains may be left out. This will lead to having a low resistance to disease. Moreover, a liquid diet should be under medical supervision only. The weight lost during the intake of a liquid diet is rarely maintained, as such diets do not teach us to eat right long term. An individual should realize, that although liquid diet works, it is not recommended for everyone.
